26th November 2012

Crash was staring into the mirror when the door was battered for the third time.

‘Patience is a virtue,’ he said.

‘Using my toilet is a virtue!’ Georgia shouted from the other side of the bathroom door. ‘And you’ve been in there for over ten minutes already.’

‘Why are you home from work so bloody early?’

‘I’ve been home all night. Mondays are supposed to be my day off.’

‘Supposed to be?’

‘Yes. Putting up with you is just more fucking work.’

‘Probably due to your lack of patience.’

‘Which is due to a lack of decency on your part!’

‘Who has a day off on a Monday?’

‘Someone who works every other day of the week, unlike you.’

‘I have other things to deal with.’

‘You stayed in all day yesterday doing nothing except eat our food.’

‘Sunday is my day off. Besides, I had to take some time to think.’

‘I honestly don’t care, just hurry up!’

‘Look, I’m a nervous pisser, I can’t go with you standing right outside.’

‘Bullshit you are. You used to piss on the school gates in front of everyone, just to get a laugh and cheer.’

Crash looked into his own eyes, ‘people change,’ he quietly replied.

‘What?’

Crash splashed some water on the toilet seat and pulled the flush. He opened the door to find Georgia rocking side to side in her dressing gown, clutching her stomach.

‘All yours, my lady.’

‘About damn time.’ She rushed into the bathroom and slammed the door behind her. Crash waited with a hesitant smile.

‘Did I just sit in your piss?!’ Georgia screamed.

Crash covered his mouth to muffle his laugh, then he quickly headed downstairs and eagerly awaited her uncomfortable presence in the kitchen as he guzzled from a carton of milk.

It sounded as though a pile of bricks had been pushed down the stairs, and then Georgia burst into the kitchen and threw out her finger, ‘if you piss on the seat one more time, I’ll drown you in that fucking toilet.’

‘Steady on,’ Crash replied and then took another sip of milk.

Georgia gritted her teeth. She fetched an empty glass from the cupboard and set it down on the unit next to Crash. Georgia stared at him, daring him to defy her, and then Crash, without breaking eye contact, filled the glass to the brim with milk.

‘There you go,’ he said with a restrained smirk.

‘The glass is for you,’ Georgia replied. ‘Stop drinking out of the carton.’

‘Oh. Well, alright then.’ Crash took one last gulp from the carton and put it back into the fridge.

‘Seriously?’

‘What?’

‘I just told you not to do that, and you go ahead and do it anyway.’

‘Sorry, force of habit.’

Georgia stepped back and huffed. ‘This . . . act of yours, it needs to stop.’

‘Act?’

‘Yes act. I’m not stupid, and neither are you—to some degree.’

‘Thanks?’

‘What happened to you, Ben?’ The look in Georgia’s eyes had changed. The sincerity in them made Crash feel uncomfortable.

‘Not sure what you mean.’

‘You know exactly what I mean. What happened to you back in school, before you became a clown? You used to be such a polite kid.
